Campervan storage boxes – make the most of every bit of space

Campervans can offer a surprising amount of storage. At least on paper.

In reality, cupboards and storage compartments are full of curves, angled walls, technical installations and unusual dimensions. This often makes it difficult to use the available space efficiently with conventional storage boxes.

That's exactly why we design our campervan storage boxes specifically for the vehicle and the individual storage compartment.

Instead of trying to fit a standard rectangular box into an irregular cupboard, we design the box to fit the cupboard.

Made-to-fit storage boxes instead of universal boxes

Every curve, angle and recess is taken into account during the design process. This allows the shape of the storage box to follow the space actually available inside the campervan.

The objective is simple: to waste as little valuable storage space as possible.

At the same time, the boxes need to work effortlessly in everyday campervan use. Where required, we therefore use aluminium and plastic sliding rails.

These allow the boxes to slide smoothly in and out and to be removed completely without jamming in the cupboard.

The result is an existing campervan cupboard transformed into a well-organised and easily accessible storage system.

Thermally compressed felt – lightweight and exceptionally rigid

The material is one of the key differences between our storage boxes and conventional felt organisers.

It starts as a soft, fluffy felt approximately 20 mm thick. During a thermal process, the material is compressed to approximately 10 mm.

Under heat and pressure, the fibres bond together to form a highly resilient structure.

The result is a material with an unusual combination of properties: it remains very lightweight and breathable, while becoming exceptionally stable and dimensionally consistent.

These characteristics make it particularly well suited to storage boxes for campervans.

Dimensionally stable – even when completely wet

Materials used in a campervan need to cope with real life.

That's why it matters to us that our boxes don't just retain their shape when dry. The thermally compressed felt remains dimensionally stable even when exposed to substantial moisture.

Even when completely soaked, the material doesn't swell or become soft.

Once dry, the box remains what it was before: a stable, made-to-fit storage box.

This makes the construction particularly durable and well suited to everyday campervan use.

Lightweight storage instead of heavy drawers

Weight matters in a campervan in a way that it rarely does at home.

One of the major advantages of our material is therefore that high stability doesn't have to mean high weight.

The boxes are lightweight and easy to remove from the cupboard, while retaining enough structural rigidity to keep their shape over the long term.

The result is an organised campervan storage system without unnecessarily adding heavy components to the vehicle.

Flat-packed and assembled in moments

Our storage boxes are delivered flat-packed to save space.

Assembly is deliberately straightforward. An easy-to-understand marking system shows which components belong together.

This allows the boxes to be assembled intuitively and in very little time – without complicated installation or lengthy instructions.

An interesting side effect: fewer sound reflections inside the campervan

Thermally compressed felt has another interesting characteristic: its structure can absorb and break up sound waves rather than immediately reflecting them like hard surfaces.

This may have a positive effect on the acoustics inside the vehicle.

We received particularly interesting feedback from the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles environment: after a new, initially empty VW T7 California Ocean had been equipped with 50°Nord® boxes, the sound level inside the vehicle was reported to have fallen by approximately 10 to 15 per cent.

Importantly, this figure is currently based on feedback and has not yet been verified by us under controlled test conditions.

We find the effect interesting enough that we intend to investigate and verify it using professional measuring equipment.

Irrespective of that measurement, the acoustic properties of the soft material are a useful additional benefit: fewer hard surfaces also mean fewer surfaces from which sound can be directly reflected.

Organised campervan storage – because every centimetre matters

For us, a good storage box doesn't need to fit as many different applications as possible. It needs to fit the exact space for which it was designed as efficiently as possible.

That's why we develop our storage boxes specifically for individual vehicles, take curves and angles into account and choose materials and construction methods that keep them lightweight, stable and suitable for long-term use.

The result is a practical way to turn awkward cupboards and storage compartments into organised spaces for clothes, camping equipment, food and all the other essentials that need their own place when travelling.
