Models and Selection
❯ What is the difference between Travel, Space and Premium?
The three 50°Nord rear tents differ mainly in their installation method, equipment and available space.
Traveler – the affordable entry-level model
The Traveler model is attached below the open tailgate using Velcro fasteners. Adhesive Velcro strips must first be applied to the vehicle. It features a removable side tunnel entrance on the right side, as well as two lockable windows with mosquito netting.
Space – convenient installation without modifications to the vehicle
The Space model is simply slipped over the open tailgate and attached to the vehicle on the side with magnets. No Velcro strips need to be glued on, nor are any other modifications to the vehicle required. In addition to the right tunnel entrance, the Space features a fully roll-up front wall that can also be used as a sunshade. The two side windows are equipped with mosquito netting and blackout roller blinds.
Premium – same features as the Space, but more space due to a larger footprint
The Premium offers the same easy magnetic attachment and equipment as the Space. The key difference is the larger footprint: The tent walls, which slant outwards, create more usable interior space, for example for camping furniture, a dog crate or additional luggage. Furthermore, the Premium features an additional, blackout-capable window in the rear wall.

Installation and vehicle compatibility
❯ How are the rear tents installed?
• Traveler: Velcro attachment to the vehicle / guy ropes and pegs on the ground
• Space: slip-over design and magnetic attachment to the vehicle / pegs on the ground
• Premium: slip-over design and magnetic attachment to the vehicle / pegs on the ground
Slip-over design means: The tent is simply placed over the tailgate and connects with the integrated magnets on the vehicle.
❯ Can I leave the rear tent installed when I close the tailgate?
Unfortunately, this is not possible. Since the tailgate serves as the base support for the tent, it cannot be closed without first dismantling the tent.
❯ Can the rear tent also be used on vehicles with barn doors?
Unfortunately, no – the rear tents are designed exclusively for mounting on tailgates. Mounting on barn doors is not possible. We currently do not offer rear tents for barn doors.
❯ Does anything need to be screwed or glued to the vehicle to install the rear tent?
• Traveler: Yes – Velcro fasteners must be glued to the tailgate and bodywork.
• Space: NO – this model uses magnetic fasteners and a slip-over design.
• Premium: NO – this model uses magnetic fasteners and a slip-over design.
❯ Is there a risk that the rear tent could damage the vehicle's paintwork?
The rear tent itself is made of fabric and is additionally padded at key contact points. However, there is a risk to the vehicle's paintwork if metallic dirt particles become lodged in the mounting magnets.
Small metal shavings, screws, rust particles or other magnetic foreign objects can be found almost anywhere. In some regions, sand or gravel may even contain magnetic components. If such particles get between the magnet and the vehicle's paintwork, scratches can occur.
Therefore, it is particularly important to keep the magnets clean and regularly check them for adhering foreign objects.
Please observe the following when handling the rear tent:
• Avoid laying out or folding up the rear tent on the ground as much as possible, especially on roads, parking lots, or other paved traffic areas.
• Make sure that the tent does not fall onto the ground and that the magnets do not collect dirt.
• Carefully check the magnets during setup and dismantling, and remove any adhering particles if necessary.
• Meadows and lawns are generally less critical. Nevertheless, you should also check the magnets here.
Our tip: With a little practice, you can spread out and fold up the rear tent directly over the open tailgate without it touching the ground. This significantly reduces the risk of dirt accumulation.

Use, transport and storage
❯ Can I shower in the rear tent?
Yes, all 50°Nord rear tents can also be used as a sheltered shower area or changing room. Since the rear tents do not have a solid floor, the shower water drains directly onto the ground. This can create puddles. If the rear tent is intended exclusively as a shower cubicle, we recommend using our VanlLfe Shower PLUS. It is significantly faster to set up and dismantle and reliably collects wastewater.
If showering is permitted at the campsite and the disposal of wastewater is safe, we recommend using a rubber foot mat as a base. This way, you do not have to stand barefoot in the accumulated water.
Please ensure that shower water and any personal care products used do not enter the environment uncontrolled.
❯ How is the rear tent transported and stored?
All 50°Nord rear tents are supplied with a suitable storage bag.
The folded rear tent can be transported compactly and conveniently inside the bag. The bag can be stored in the vehicle or in a rear or roof box.
Our tip: Allow the rear tent to dry completely after use in the rain before storing it in the storage bag for an extended period.
